Multi-disciplinary Autism Assessment
Autismbanner_pic.jpeg

Autism is a neuro-developmental condition characterised by differences in social communication, interaction, flexibility of thought and sensory needs. Autism can be diagnosed in childhood or adulthood and affects both males and females.

Autism assessments are conducted by a multi-disciplinary team (two or more professionals from different backgrounds). In this case, assessments are predominantly completed by myself and my colleague, Dr Jude Hutchinson, who is an Educational Psychologist and experienced Autism diagnostician.  For children and young people (under 18 years old) there is often the additional requirement of a medical examination completed by a Paediatrician, this is undertaken by our colleague Dr Henderson of Sonny Healthcare.

Assessment involves gathering detailed background information from early childhood, from multiple sources, and across settings. The practical element of the assessment is completed using the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule). Following consideration of all the information gathered during a detailed clinical discussion, feedback will be given regarding assessment outcomes. Onward referrals to relevant services can be made as appropriate. A full report, including recommendations, will be provided.
